Interactive Basketball Poster

This is not a traditional interactive piece, but interactive design is at it’s core.

This was an exercise in site mapping, laying out elements for a web page in a way that makes the most sense. The challenge from my professor was to learn the rules of basketball and then relay that information in a flat, 2D poster.

As a class we accumulated information that we deemed important to the game, necessary knowledge in order to play, and after that we were on our own. I organized the list into five basic parts, the top tiers were Game Rules, Players, Court Locations and Sidelines. Game rules split into tiers of scoring and fouls, Scoring split into amount of points, amount of points split into moves like “slam dunk” or “jump shot,” and then sensible definitions of each.

This process happens with each tier. The point is to plan out navigation of information in a way that anyone can look at the poster and find the information they’re looking for. This translates easily over to Website Navigation, which is why I’ve placed it in the interactive portion of my website. When this project started I didn’t see the correlation between posters and websites, but since it’s completion I’ve found myself plotting out web interactions and thinking of ways to more sensibly group information.
